Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What’s the reason why women have a longer life span than men? Why does this benefit increase in the past? There isn’t much evidence and we’re left with only some answers. We know that behavioral, biological and كيفية إقامة علاقة بالصور – Click Webpage, environmental factors all play a role in the fact that women have longer lives than men, However, we’re not sure how strong the relative contribution of each factor is.

In spite of the number of pounds, كيفية إقامة علاقة بالصور we know that a large portion of the reason women live so much longer than men today and not previously, has to be due to the fact that a number of fundamental non-biological factors have changed. These are the factors that are changing. Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women’s longevity disproportionately.

The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. It is clear that all countries are above the diagonal line of parity. This means that a newborn girl in all countries can expect to live longer than her younger brother.

This chart shows that, while there is a female advantage across all countries, differences between countries can be substantial. In Russia women live 10 years longer than men, while in Bhutan the difference is less than half an hour.

In the richer countries, the advantage of women in longevity was not as great.
Let’s examine how the gender advantage in life expectancy has changed over time. The chart below illustrates the male and female life expectancy at the time of birth in the US in the years 1790 to 2014. Two specific points stand out.

The first is that there is an upward trend. Women and men in the United States live longer than they did 100 years ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.

The second is that there is an ever-widening gap: female advantage in life expectancy used be extremely small but it increased substantially over the last century.

You can confirm that these principles are also applicable to other countries that have data by clicking the “Change country” option in the chart. This includes the UK, France, and Sweden.
