Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What is the reason women live much longer than men today and ابر التخسيس why is this difference growing in the past? The evidence is sketchy and we’re only able to provide some solutions. We know that behavioral, biological and environmental factors play a role in the fact that women have longer life spans than men, However, we’re not sure how strong the relative contribution of each one of these factors is.
In spite of the precise amount of weight, we are aware that at least part of the reason why women live so much longer than men today but not in the past, is to do with the fact that a number of fundamental non-biological factors have changed. What are these factors that have changed? Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Certain are more complicated. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women’s longevity disproportionately.
Everywhere in the world women tend to live longer than men
The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. We can see that all countries are above the diagonal line of parity. This means that a newborn girl from every country could be expected to live for longer than her brother.
The chart below shows that even though women enjoy an advantage across all countries, differences between countries are often significant. In Russia, women live 10 years more than males. In Bhutan there is a difference of just half a year.

The advantage women had in life expectancy was smaller in rich countries than it is today.
Let’s now look at the way that female advantages in life expectancy has changed over time. The following chart shows the men and women’s life expectancies at the birth in the US between 1790-2014. Two things stand out.
The first is that there is an upward trend. Men and women in America have longer lives than they did a century ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.
There is an ever-widening gap: female advantage in terms of life expectancy used be very small however it increased dramatically during the last century.
Using the option ‘Change country’ on the chart, you are able to confirm that the two points are also applicable to the other countries having available information: Sweden, France and the UK.
