Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What’s the reason women are more likely to live longer than men? What is the reason does this benefit increase in the past? There isn’t much evidence and we only have incomplete answers. We are aware that behavioral, biological and environmental factors play a role in the fact that women have longer lives than men, but we don’t know exactly how strong the relative contribution to each of these variables is.

In spite of the amount, we can say that at a minimum, the reason women live longer than men today however not as previously, has to have to do with the fact that several key non-biological factors have changed. These factors are changing. Some are well known and كيفية إقامة علاقة بالصور relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women’s longevity disproportionately.

The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. We can see that all countries are above the line of parity diagonally. This means that a newborn girl from any country can anticipate to live longer than her younger brother.

The chart below shows that even though women enjoy an advantage across all countries, كيفية إقامة علاقة بالصور differences between countries can be substantial. In Russia women have an average of 10 years more than men. In Bhutan the difference is just half an hour.

The advantage of women in life expectancy was less in rich countries than it is now.
Let’s examine how the advantage of women in life expectancy has changed over time. The following chart shows the male and female lifespans at birth in the US over the period 1790-2014. Two distinct features stand out.

The first is that there is an upward trend. as well as women in the US live much, much longer than they did 100 years ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.

The gap is widening: While the female advantage in life expectancy was tiny but it has risen significantly over time.
