Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What’s the reason women have a longer life span than men? And how does this benefit increase as time passes? There isn’t much evidence and we’re only able to provide limited solutions. Although we know that there are behavioral, biological and environmental factors which play a significant role in the longevity of women over men, we don’t know how much each one contributes.

Independently of the exact weight, زيوت تطويل الشعر we know that at least a portion of the reason why women live longer than men in the present and not in the past, has to have to do with the fact that certain fundamental non-biological factors have changed. These are the factors that are changing. Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women’s longevity disproportionately.

Everywhere in the world women tend to live longer than men
The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. It is clear that every country is above the line of parity diagonally. This means that a newborn girl in all countries can expect to live longer than her brothers.

The chart above shows that while the female advantage is present everywhere, cross-country differences are large. In Russia women are 10 years older than men, while in Bhutan the gap is less than half each year.

__S.19__
In countries with high incomes, the female advantage in longevity was previously smaller.
Let’s examine how the female longevity advantage has changed over time. The chart below illustrates the male and female life expectancy at the time of birth in the US between 1790 to 2014. Two distinct features stand out.

First, there’s an upward trend. and زيوت تطويل الشعر women in the US live much, much longer than they did 100 years ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.

The gap is growing: Although the advantage of women in life expectancy was once quite small, it has increased substantially in the past.

If you select the option “Change country by country’ in the chart, check that these two points are applicable to the other countries with available data: Sweden, France and the UK.
