Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What is the reason women have a longer life span than men? What is the reason does this benefit increase over time? The evidence is limited and we’re left with only limited answers. We know that biological, ماذا يحدث بين الزوجين في الحمام بالصور behavioral and environmental factors play a role in the fact that women live longer than men; However, we’re not sure what the contribution of each one of these factors is.

It is known that women live longer than men, regardless of weight. However this isn’t due to the fact that certain biological or non-biological factors have changed. These are the factors that are changing. Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women’s longevity disproportionately.

Everywhere in the world women tend to live longer than men
The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. We can see that every country is over the diagonal line of parity. This implies that a baby girl from any country can anticipate to live longer than her older brother.

Interestingly, this chart shows that while the female advantage exists everywhere, the global differences are significant. In Russia women live 10 years more than men. In Bhutan the difference is less that half a year.

In countries with high incomes, the longevity advantage for women used to be smaller
Let’s examine how the advantage of women in terms of longevity has changed over time. The following chart shows the male and female life expectancies at birth in the US from 1790 until 2014. Two specific points stand out.

First, there is an upward trend: Men and women in the US are living much, much longer today than a century ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.

Second, the gap is increasing: While the advantage of women in life expectancy used to be tiny however, it has grown significantly over time.

It is possible to verify that the points you’ve listed are applicable to other countries that have data by selecting the “Change country” option on the chart. This includes the UK, France, and Sweden.
